Braces for kids work best when timing follows dental development rather than a fixed birthday. A first orthodontic check is advised by age 7, when the first permanent molars and incisors arrive and jaw growth patterns become readable. Most children then start full braces between 11 and 14, once the permanent teeth are in place.
An early check does not mean early braces. In most cases the orthodontist simply monitors growth every six to twelve months. Intervention is recommended only for crossbites, severe upper front tooth protrusion, narrow arches, thumb sucking damage, or teeth blocked from erupting, where waiting makes the correction harder and longer.
Short answer on cost: metal braces for children start at Rs 40,000 and run to Rs 70,000, ceramic braces Rs 55,000 to Rs 90,000, teen aligners start at Rs 1,40,000 and run to Rs 2,00,000, and early appliances Rs 12,000 to Rs 35,000. City, case complexity and appliance brand set the final quote.

The real risk during childhood treatment is not the appliance, it is hygiene. White spot lesions form around brackets within weeks when brushing slips, and those marks stay after the braces come off. Aligner cases fail for a different reason, which is wear time dropping below 20 hours on school days.
The solution is structure rather than nagging. Fix a two minute brushing routine after every meal, add a fluoride mouth rinse at night, keep an interdental brush in the school bag, and use a visible wear chart for aligners. Book a hygiene review every six months during treatment so problems are caught early.
An early assessment is short, painless and often reassuring. If treatment is not needed yet, you leave with a monitoring plan instead of a bill. Book a free digital assessment or read the knowledge hub for the full pediatric orthodontics series.
